Frequently Asked Questions

Everything people ask before sending cargo to Nigeria

The questions we answer every day — costs, timings, barrels, vehicles, customs and how collection works across London and the home counties. Can't find yours? Ask us directly and a real person will answer.

Costs, timings, customs and collection

How much does it cost to send cargo to Nigeria?

Air freight is £6 per kilo with no minimum weight, sea freight is £2.80 per kilo, and a barrel is £100. Prices are to our Lagos office for collection; delivery to the door anywhere in Nigeria is quoted by state. Ask for a quote and we'll price your exact shipment.

How long does delivery to Nigeria take?

Air freight is typically 7 working days; sea freight is typically 4–6 weeks. Times vary by state and by current port conditions at Lagos, which we'll always flag.

Which parts of the UK do you collect from?

Right now, London — all 32 boroughs — and the home counties around it: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey. Anywhere else in the UK, you're welcome to drop off at our Dagenham base. Tell us your postcode and we'll confirm.

Which parts of Nigeria do you deliver to?

All 36 states and the FCT. Every shipment arrives at our Lagos office, where the recipient can collect it; if you would rather we delivered to the door — Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or anywhere else — we quote that by state.

What can I send — and what can't I?

You can send personal effects, clothing, food and household goods, electronics, documents and vehicles. Some items are restricted or prohibited by Nigeria Customs; ask us before you pack and we'll advise.

Do you supply barrels, and how do I pack one?

Yes. Shipping a barrel is £100; if you need a drum we sell them at £55. We'll tell you what fits and how to pack it so nothing shifts in transit.

How is the cost of my shipment calculated?

By chargeable weight: the higher of actual weight or volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 5,000), times the per-kilo rate, plus a handling fee. There is no minimum weight by air or sea. Barrels, bags and size-38 boxes are a flat price each, however full they are — so for anything drum-shaped a barrel is usually the better buy.

Do you collect from my door?

Across London and the home counties — Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey — yes. Tell us your postcode when you ask for a quote and we'll confirm arrangements and timing. Anywhere else, or if you prefer to bring it yourself, drop-offs are welcome at 105 Frizlands Lane, Dagenham RM10 7HL during opening hours, and no collection fee applies when you drop off.

What does door-to-door actually mean?

We collect from your address, ship your cargo by air or sea and handle customs clearance on arrival in Lagos. Published prices get it to our Lagos office for collection; door delivery to the recipient's address in any state is an extra we quote by state, because a Lagos address is a short run and a northern one can be a day on the road.

How do I pay?

You pay GBAS Worldwide directly — we confirm the price in your quote before anything is collected, so the number you agree is the number you pay. No payment is taken on this website.

Is my cargo insured?

Ask us about cover when you book — we'll explain what protection applies to your shipment and any options for higher-value items before you send. Always declare high-value goods honestly.

Can I ship a car or other vehicle?

Yes — by sea. A standard car is £2,000, an SUV £2,500–£3,500 and a van £3,500–£5,000, and those prices include clearing, import duty and port charges at Apapa. Larger cars are priced on length and width. You'll need the V5C and SONCAP compliance; our car shipping page covers the paperwork.

What documents can you send?

Passports, certificates, contracts, and house or property papers travel securely with our parcel service — by air for speed, to our Lagos office or on to the door.

When should I send for Christmas or Easter?

Sea cargo for December needs to be booked by the first week of November; Easter sea by late January. Air freight can go much later — typically 7 working days before you need it there. Ask us for the current cutoff dates.

Will I pay customs duty in Nigeria?

Personal effects in normal quantities usually clear without drama, but commercial goods attract duty based on their CIF value and ECOWAS tariff band — our Nigeria Import Duty Calculator gives you an estimate. Vehicle prices already include the duty.

Why do your prices say they may change?

Because fuel is the biggest cost in freight and it is moving with the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. We keep the published rates current, and the price we confirm when you book is fixed — it is only between your visit and your booking that a rate can move.

Are you a registered UK company?

GBAS Worldwide is a UK-registered company (No. 16358607) based at 105 Frizlands Lane, Dagenham RM10 7HL. You're dealing with a real, accountable UK business.
